Geth plasma shotgun ME 3 LE

2022.01.16 19:06 Effective_Sympathy_6 Geth plasma shotgun ME 3 LE

Is the geth plasma shotgun in ME 3 LE any good? I loooved it in on my vanguard in ME 2 but from what I’ve heard it wasn’t very good in ME3. I still have not gotten to the mission where to acquire it yet!
Has this been changed in the legendary edition? Is it worth using??

2022.01.16 19:06 AllLinesAreStraight Coaches, Clock Management, and Marginal Returns in CFB

This is going to be a decently long post so I hope people will bear with me. Throughout the college football season there are countless clock management mistakes by both good and bad coaches and I wanted to take a look at some pretty big examples and look at how much they can cost teams. Ultimately, the question I want to get to is why teams seem to be so far behind the all on clock management considering how many resources are dumped into analysts, recruiting, nutrition, medicine, etc?
I think the moment they read the words "clock managment" Virginia Tech fans knew where this was going but I want to start by looking at Justin Fuente's tenure. I want to start by looking at Virginia Tech vs. Miami in 2020.
Miami at Virginia Tech
ESPN's play by play is....questionable at time so for reference, here is the link to the actual game (start at 1:00:17):
Miami has 2nd and 10 with 1:28 to go in the 1st half on the VT 32, VT has two timeouts. D'eriq King runs for 4 yards, setting up 3rd and 6 with ~1:22 to go. At this point neither side calls a timeout (Miami had 3). Miami runs the clock down to 55 seconds before snapping the ball. They try to run a QB draw, it goes terribly, King loses 5 yards and gets tackled with 50 seconds to go in the half, now setting up a 4th and 11. VT still doesn't take a timeout and Miami runs the clock down to 7 seconds (there was some time between when the tackle took place and when the play clock actually started) before calling a timeout. Miami then attempts, and makes, a fg.
So Miami basically ran the clock out and got a fg and VT went to the locker room with 2 unused timeouts. The 2nd down play was snapped with 1:28 and the 2nd and 3rd down plays took ~13 seconds combined with the fg taking an additional 4 seconds. Lets be conservative in saying there is some delay between end of play and the timeout and put the combined time of the 3 plays at 25 seconds. That would have left VT with 1:03 to try to get a fg, not an easy proposition by any means but certainly a reasonable one. Instead VT just went to the locker room. They would lose the game by 1.
Liberty at Virginia Tech
This is worth a trigger warning to VT fans and everyone remembers the inexplicable decision to try to ice Liberty's kicker before a 59 yard fg and all that ensued from there, one of the most horrific sequences of coaching I've ever seen that should have resulted in Fuente getting immediately fired but I actually want to focus on VT's prior drive where they tied the game up (2:12:40):
VT is driving down to try to tie the game up and have 1st and 10 from the Liberty 38. The ball is snapped with 1:03 remaining and VT gains 14 yards on a rush play (tackled at the 24), ending with a facemask by Liberty. At this point the clock is stopped by the ref due to the penalty with 56 seconds left, VT with one timeout. The ball is spotted at the 12 yard line with the clock starting on the snap. VT scores on the very next play, with 52 seconds remaining.
So what is the issue? Well, VT had a choice following the penalty to either start the clock on the snap or to keep the clock running after the ball was spotted. They still had a timeout and 56 seconds on the clock. Letting the clock start running and running it down to ~40 seconds still gives them plenty of time to score and leaves a lot less time for Liberty once they tie it up. Considering that Liberty won on the last play of the game, it is likely that the game goes to OT if VT runs some time off the clock. Now I understand there are scenarios in which you need the full 56 seconds. But considering that VT just drove down the field fairly easily, and would need probably 7 or 8 plays to use that full amount of time, the odds are much more likely that VT needs to bleed clock than conserve it.
Notre Dame at Virginia Tech
One final Justin Fuente example (and I apologize for doing this to you VT fans but its not my fault you guys hired a clock clown) is the Notre Dame game from this past season (2:20:13):
Notre Dame has the ball 1st and 10 on the VT 39, score tied at 29, VT has two timeouts. ND gains 9 yards on 1st down, tackled at the 30 with 1:05 remaining. Clock continues to run, ND snaps the ball with ~42 seconds (2nd and 1) and an incompletion is thrown, stopping the clock with 37 seconds to go and bringing up 3rd and 1, VT still has 2 timeouts. ND runs the ball on 3rd and 1 and the VT defense makes a great play to hold the RB for no gain, tackling him with 34 seconds and at that point Fuente......lets the clock continue to run.......down to 22 seconds at which point he calls a timeout. So instead of, say 32 seconds and a timeout to score a fg, VT now has 22 seconds and a timeout to do so. While 32 seconds and 1 timeout is by no means a good chance to score a fg, its still very possible. I know this because VT managed to do exactly that in the FIRST HALF OF THE SAME GAME. VT would ultimately fumble and lose.
Georgia vs. Clemson
Alllinesarestraight, no shit Fuente was terrible, there's a reason he was fired, what is your point? That is a fair point so let me give you an example of poor clock management by a coach I think we can all agree is pretty good, even if he isn't likeable: Dabo Swinney:
Georgia is trying to run the clock out as they lead 10-3. Its 3rd and 1 for UGA from the Clemson 46 with 3:20 to go, Clemson has all 3 timeouts. Uga snaps the ball with 3:20 and they manage to run for a 1st down, at which point Clemson takes a timeout. So what is the problem? On a 1st down, the playclock should be starting immediately (in this case it took about 2 seconds) which the game clock doesn't start until the ball is spotted/chains are moved, something that you will see take anywhere from 5-10 seconds depending on the gain and game. In this case it takes about 5 seconds. This means that instead of 40 seconds coming off the clock, only 35 comes off the clock between plays. So calling a timeout here, rather than after the prior 2nd down play, is a difference of 5 seconds (and in some cases up to 10 seconds). 5-10 seconds is a lot of time, especially in cfb where a first down stops the clock. This could mean a completion and spike on a final drive or an extra play. And to be clear, I'm only using Dabo as an example here because I happened to remember this one specifically, but make no mistake, this is a mistake you see all the time from coaches, across divisions, conferences, etc.
University of Ohio at University of Louisiana-Lafayette
One final example I want to look at to show that there is bad clock management that isn't always punished come from another coach that I think people would agree is at least decent: Billy Napier (10:14):
This example is a little less clear because there were a few different places on this drive where timeouts could have been used better but I'm going to start here. ULL has a 3rd and 4 on the Ohio 33 with two timeouts and 34 seconds. They run for 14 yards, down to the Ohio 19, at which point the RB is tackled with 28 seconds remaining. Napier chooses not to take a timeout and ULL snaps the ball on the ensuing play with 21 seconds left on the clock. Levi Lewis does Levi Lewis things, makes a defender look as mobile as my grandpa, gains 10 yards and darts out of bounds with 11 seconds. On the next play, Lewis takes a draw down to the 1 and ULL uses their 2nd timeout with 3 seconds left.
So the issue here is that ULL now has 2nd and goal at the 1 with 3 seconds left but still has a timeout. If that timeout had been used with 28 seconds to go ULL could now have 10 seconds instead of 3 and could either have 2 plays to punch in a td or could go for a fg if they went for a TD and didn't get it. Ultimately they did get the TD so it didn't matter but that misuse of a timeout esssentially cost them 2-3 expected points going into the final play of the half. Its a good example of bad clock management that gets overlooked because it works out.
Now that I've spent all this time to give you 5 examples of bad clock management, let me get to my point. Some of these are obvious, terrible jobs by the coach. Others (the second Fuente example and the Napier example) aren't nearly as obvious but can be quite costly. So why is it normal for teams to have the coach do this clock management? Ultimately he needs to be the one to call the timeout, yes, but theres no reason they can't have someone sit next to the coach to tell him when to call those timeouts. Coaching is an insanely difficult job, likely done with some significant sleep deprivation. Coaches have a million things to think about and, honestly, how well they do algebra isn't one of the concerns when hiring a coach. Even coaches who can manage the clock well may mess up because they have to focus on other things at the same time.
But there are plenty of people out there that can do this exact clock management basically perfectly who would likely be willing to do so for a relatively small amount of money. Right now, in the current CFB landscape, top teams are forking out huge amounts of money for coaches, analysts, health staffs, etc, etc, in an attempt to get every possible advantage. Looking back at those 3 VT examples, poor clock management may have cost VT as much as 1 full expected win across two seasons. How much would programs be willing to pay for half a win? Yet instead of forking out for such an analyst, teams stick these duties with the head coach, someone who isn't (and shouldn't be) hired for their clock management skills. In a sport with pretty significant diminishing returns on the 12th and 13th guys being hired, here is an inefficiency with a fairly significant expected value to fix.
Anyway, let me know what you think. This is just something I've observed over the past few seasons in particular and kinda stuck out to me as coaches were getting $8M+ contracts. And to be clear, there are a thousand more examples of terrible clock management across seasons, I'm not trying to pick on specific teams here, these are just obvious examples that came to mind.

2022.01.16 19:06 Kakep0p Should I buy the reboot first wave Cleo De Nile?

I’ve been starting up my monster high doll collection since a family member threw 30+ dolls I had out. Lately I’ve been collecting more, even getting an unfinished 2014 original ghouls Cleo. Cleo’s my favorite, and I saw one for $18 plus shipping, out of box condition, just minus the stand, purses and box. Doll is in mint condition. Part of me wants to buy her, but another part is hesitant given it’d be the last of my money. (It’s a gift card I’m using.) Do I buy or pass?

2022.01.16 19:06 Bipolarbearingit Disabled with Care

Think of me what you will, but I am one those people that isn't handicapped that utilizes the handicapped stall whenever it is available. It's spacious, and convenient obviously, but it also struck me that this stall wasn't just designed for handicapped people, it was designed with care and compassion which made me think, what were the normal stalls designed with?
Look, a normal stall suits me just fine as well, but it's crammed, sometimes my knees touch the toilet paper dispenser. I am left with the feeling that whoever designed this stall gave zero shits about their fellow man.
(Off tangent point, urinals are completely useless! I can only go number 1 in them, I would rather they be uninstalled and replaced with more handicapped stalls.)
What if the same compassion for handicapped stalls was utilized in public transportation for all available seating? The handicapped stall version of seating on commercial flights is also known as first class.
Obviously I get why handicapped stalls were created, and no I'm not actually taking away the opportunity for the one handicapped person at my work place to use said stall, but the almost daily experience provokes this line of thinking. How much better could things be in general if we designed them with the same compassion and consideration demonstrated in that of a handicapped stall?
