Never ever do I want you to turn your headlight on on your motorcycle, ever. You're literally getting "lit up" by your enemies when you do. And after turning your headlight off what seems like untold thousands of times I'd think you'd have gotten the hint. Sincerely, everyone

2021.10.26 01:43 Tireseas Something I've been curious about with Platinum-MD.
Or anything using the same backend i suppose. Now as I understand it true SP recording works by sending the data to the device and then encoding it to SP with the on board hardware. That's part of why the transfers are a little on the slow side for SP. If I'm wrong on that by all means please correct me. I love the opportunity to learn new stuff.
So what I'm wondering is this. Is there something special about SP or could the same nominal process be used for the other encoding qualities? In particular I'm extremely curious as to whether Hi-SP could benefit from a similar process given how much of a bear it's likely to be to reverse engineer the codec.
I'm assuming there's a level of technical complexity well beyond just feeding the data to the hardware as if it were line recording or someone probably already would've done it but I'd still be interested in any insights folks have.

2021.10.26 01:43 dylan20 Reincarnation and no-self
In ancient India, reincarnation, karma, and retribution were all taught based on the idea of the existence of a self. There was a widely held belief in a permanent self that reincarnated and received karmic retribution for actions in this lifetime. But when the Buddha taught reincarnation, karma, and retribution, he taught them in the light of no self, impermanence, and nirvana — our true nature of no birth and no death. He taught that it is not necessary to have a separate, unchanging self in order for karma — actions of body, speech, and mind — to be continued.Thich Nhat Hanh, The Art of Living, pp. 40-41
According to the Buddha’s core teachings on no self, impermanence, and interbeing, the mind is not a separate entity. The mind cannot leave the body and reincarnate somewhere else. If the mind or spirit is taken from the body, the spirit no longer exists. Body and mind depend on each other in order to exist. Whatever happens in the body influences the mind, and whatever happens in the mind influences the body. Consciousness relies on the body to manifest. Our feelings need to have a body in order to be felt. Without a body, how could we feel? But this doesn’t mean that when the body is dead, we disappear. Our body and mind are a source of energy, and when that energy is no longer manifesting in the forms of body and mind, in manifests in other forms: in our actions of body, speech, and mind.
We don’t need a permanent, separate self in order to reap the consequences of our actions. Are you the same person you were last year, or are you different? Even in this lifetime, we cannot say that the one who sowed good seeds last year is exactly the same person as the one who reaps the benefit this year.
Unfortunately, many Buddhists still hold on to the idea of a self to help them understand the teachings of reincarnation, karma, and retribution. But this is a very diluted kind of Buddhism, because it has lost the essence of the Buddha’s teachings on no self, impermanence, and our true nature of no birth and no death. Any teaching that does not reflect these insights is not the deepest Buddhist teaching. The Three Doors of Liberation — emptiness, signlessness, and aimlessness — embody the cream of the Buddha’s teaching.
In Buddhism, if you touch the reality of interbeing, impermanence, and no self, you understand reincarnation in quite a different way. You see that rebirth is possible without a self. Karma is possible without a self, and retribution is possible without a self.
The Thai modernist Buddhist monk Buddhadāsa (1906–1993) also had an rationalistic or psychological interpretation of rebirth. He argued that since there is no substantial entity or soul (atman), “there is no one born, there is no one who dies and is reborn. Therefore, the whole question of rebirth is quite foolish and has nothing to do with Buddhism…in the sphere of the Buddhist teachings there is no question of rebirth or reincarnation.” However, Buddhadāsa did not completely reject the rebirth doctrine, he only saw the idea that there is something that gets reborn into a future womb as “trivial”. Instead of this 'literal' view, he interpreted the true meaning of rebirth as the re-arising of the sense of self or "I" or "me", a kind of “self-centredness” which is "a mental event arising out of ignorance, craving, and clinging." According to Buddhadāsa, this is what "rebirth" truly means on the ultimate level (paramattha) of discourse. There's also a story about how someone asked Chogyam Trungpa what gets reborn, if not the self. Trungpa supposedly answered, "Your bad habits!" Or, in some versions, "your neuroses."

2021.10.26 01:43 badbunny9191 General Dating Advice
To provide context, I am an an RM 21M, and am currently seeking advice from anyone and everyone. On paper, dating here would seem to be a pretty easy thing thing, given the huge population of members my age, yet my experience has been the exact opposite. Between people being in a relationships, talking to someone, or only looking for fun/NCMO’s, I have struggled to meet people that are genuine, and potentially ready for a relationship. Any advice?

2021.10.26 01:43 WritingSad442 Transfer acceptance chances/ Your transfer experience
Hey everybody, I was wondering what you think my chances are of transferring into UW Madison as a junior specifically the college of Letters and Science as a math major.
My stats are as follows: 1. 63 credits from community college in Missouri with a 3.3 gpa overall and 3.74 gpa in major related coursework. 2.For extracurriculars I have a private pilots license and I am a part of a flying club at my local airport. 3. I could get a pretty good letter of recommendation from my math professor if that would help.
So if any of you transferred into UW Madison or know anybody who transferred in, what were theiyour stats and are mine competitive enough to get in or at least have a >40% chance of admission.
This school would really be a dream school for me to attend, because they have an amazing math program (14th in the world and 7th in the nation), and it would be nice if the culmination of my hard work was attending and graduating from an institution of this high of a level. Any advice would be helpful and appreciated even if it doesn’t 100% pertain to my question.
